The epicenter of value wines in is Portugal, with more "Best Buy" distinctions than France, Spain, South America and even the United States. For the price, these wines rarely disappoint. Such is the case for the Prazo de Roriz Red Blend, crafted by Prats & Symington in the famed Douro wine region. They turned heads last year when the Chryseia red blend was the #3 selection on Wine Spectator's Top 10 list. Since then, wines from Prats & Symington have been increasingly hard to come by. If you've never had a wine from Bruno Prats before, 93 points for $15.99 is a good place to start. Pratz is the former owner of Chateau Cos d'Estournel in Bordeaux, and modulates the power of the Douro's fruit with a Bordelaise finesse. Outstanding for the price!
"A juicy, fresh delivery full of red and blue berries, together with wild herbs, stems, hibiscus, white pepper and cocoa powder, extending to the juicy, fluid and linear palate that’s full of energy. Not huge depth here, but it’s mealy and drinkable with a medium-bodied palate, underscored by fruit vibrancy." James Suckling, 93 Points
